Istanbul Airport is located to the north of the town of Arnavutkoy in Eastern Thrace and is the largest airport in Turkey.
All scheduled commercial airline flights were transferred from Ataturk Airport to Istanbul International Airport on 6 April 2019, following the closure of the former for scheduled passenger flights.The IATA code of the former airport, IST, was also transferred to the new airport.
Once all phases of the airport’s construction are completed by the mid-2020s, the airport will have the capacity to serve 200 million passengers per year.
The taxi ride from the airport with an official istanbul airport taxi will take no more than 20 minutes.
The airport currently has one terminal for domestic and international flights and four runways in operation
The inauguration of the airport took place on the scheduled date of 29 October 2018. It was reported that the first test landing at the airport would take place on 26 February 2018. However, the first landing took place on 20 June 2018.
